San Jacinto

We walked Native Trails on San Jacinto in California visiting family living there, it was snowing at the top and we heard and felt a few rumbles as we walked under the large pine trees. It was very still and mysterious especially with snowflakes whirling down in September. It was hot and very dry in the plain below the mountains. San Jacinto has frightening legend – maybe this was to keep people away from Indian hunting grounds or maybe it wasn’t.

We also visited the San Andreas fault in a thunderstorm climbing through the canyons and then drove up a mountain on the other side of the Valley – felt like Europe.

Before we flew home, we drove to the Ocean and saw the Palm trees on Ocean Boulevard and played volley ball on the beach and had our photo taken by the lifeboat station, all the usual tourist things. Finally we visited the theme park at Universal Studios and looked down on Silicon Valley – my son had his photograph taken with his head inside a large shark.

People seemed friendly but the rumbles, pumpkin pies, 6 lane motorways and gun culture – no place like home.
