“Two innovative new bridges are set to change the landscape and the environment of the Thames, if current proposals are given the go-ahead. Named the Garden Bridge and the Diamond Jubilee Footbridge, these two new structures would give priority to pedestrians and look to add to the natural surroundings rather than damage them.
First, there’s the Garden Bridge, a proposed green oasis spanning the Thames envisioned by the actress Joanna Lumley and designer Thomas Heatherwick (of Olympic opening ceremony and London bus fame). The £150 million project went into its initial public consultation stage in November, and will link the Temple underground station on the north bank to the Globe Theatre on the south”…. more
