Searching for the big house where a great aunt worked as a dressmaker discovered a video about gentle english eccentric who escaped to mexico where he built ‘Las Pozas’ – a sculpture garden in the depth of the rain forest .. Las Pozas and the Secret Life of Edward James. The video is little old and narrated by George Melley.
Heard about this garden a few years ago when Monty Don went to South America to visit.
Another place we thought might have been the place where great Aunt worked – was Chawton House in Hampshire.. owned by the Knight family for 400 years and one of the adopted’ Knights’, was Edward Austin Knight – Jane Austin’s brother, who moved into a small house nearby to write.
