Eurovision – Saturday May 10th

Always loved Eurovision, the glamour, hairdos, craziness (althou very very long voting).. then last few years, two semifinals being televised – 3x eurovision and one of the presenter’s this year is from ‘Borgen’

First semifinal, very excited surrounded with popcorn and crisps, heja sverija but by about the third song of the second semi finals almost wanted to run out the room..

Maybe its the staging this year, a huge gantry in a massive warehouse, very technologically amazing lights, green screen backdrops – think maybe the technology dwarfs the singers. Definitly an advantage to be included in the semifinals and not be one of the big five – so each country can figure out what works best with the stage  and people get familiar with your song – risk you wont go thru but perhaps this is fairer.

This year hoped the UK has a chance – we have backing singers, a beat and the person who wrote and performs the song is current – but unlike the others we have no ballerinas, bearded or booby ladies, hamster wheels, acrobats, trampoline or circular keyboards.. but we have Graham Norton commenting it.. who cares if we loose, again (and two dancing men in kilts made no difference to Ireland)

Holland dimmed the lights and on a dark set just with white road lines – the song and singers stood out and Montenegro’s ballad ‘Moi Svijet’ with a figure skater against a Monet background was beautiful. Finland’s band is smooth version of great rock that comes from Finland – is McCauley Culkin fronting it?
