BT – Prejudice – is not ok

Our BT telephone line went dead last night – now almost a day ago and we registered the Fault and told it will take minimum two days for someone to come out and look into the reason why we are disconnected.

Not sure if leaving you two days without a service – is normal any longer in the UK but when i explained our personal circumstances, was told by a BT Customer Service Agent he didnt consider Schizophrenia as a Disability that warranted any special treatment. If you had some other physical health problem – it might be different.

This sort of talk is reminiscent of a time where it was ok to dismiss people with mental health problems. We hope someone somewhere picks this up – because its not ok – to dismiss people in this way.

Have been thinking about this – maybe, we should be pleased – because someone feels, Schizophrenia doesnt make you different, its within the range of being normal (whatever that is)  but this person doesnt know us – nor the many life challanges that a Schizophrenia diagnosis can bring into someones life – so being without a phone for two to three days in the country without good mobile reception – could cause a problem, if you are unlucky.

Perhaps sadly it is also a sign that the era of landlines like telephone boxes, might soon be only in history books
