The program begins by looking at Kenya and development of M-Pesa, or mobile money possible using very ordinary mobiles, a service which has revolutionised banking in a country where more than 80% of people are excluded from the formal financial sector and goes on to compare Apps provided by Apple and Google to compete with the Banks for our financial transactions and finally finishes with a chilling prediction that Facebook Impresario – Mark Zuckerberg is exploring an overlooked opportunity in India based on what is happening in Kenya – to possibly control money itself.
The program talks about how Banks would like to introduce negative interest to drive the economy and remove cash all together. This may not be in our interest.
