Grapes

We have two maybe three small rows of red grapes – Chambourcin variety. The vines grow prolifically – wherever they touch the ground, they root. They were planted by a gentleman whose son was trading at the top of twin towers in New York. His sadness was always not far away. We inherited – raspberrys, gooseberrys, red currents, black currents and the grapes. After he left, we still took some of the grapes to his wife to make jelly. He showed me how to prune the raspberrys and gave us some horseradish roots – which seemed to grow down to Australia.

Though this summer was so warm, the grapes still seem a little sharp and not really edible or useful to make good juice or wine – the sugar levels are not high enough so link below is how to use them in other ways. I picked, washed and have frozen them in small bags and plan to use them with kiwis and yoghurt.
