The Buzzard and the Crow

We live near the Downs – an open area now South Down National Park and noticed more and more buzzards congregating on field fences and wheeling in the sky and fewer and fewer wild rabbits.

Yesterday the sky was empty, blue and sunny than the noise of a very angry bird, a crow got closer and closer on his own chasing a buzzard circling across the sky. The crow on his own was following in hot persuit – making very angry sounds. Wondered if it was a territorial thing and the buzzard had attacked the crows nest – it looked like the crow was  trying to chase the buzzard out of the sky.

The birds disappeared into the distance and little while later the crow flew back, making crowlike happy sounds on his own, no buzzard in sight.

Today sitting outside in small heatwave almost too hot by midday to do more than dream under the cherry trees – petals are falling out of the sky like snowflakes in a gentle breeze – not a crow or buzzard in sight.
