Early May morning

Wandering through the lanes early morning, the rising sun a dreamy ball of light above the misty fields and fresh pale green leaves on hedges and trees. Many horses around us prepared this early to come over and say hello. Noticed the small blossoms on hawthorn shrubs – mainly white but noticed also beautiful pink blossom. My Dad talked about these plants unexpectedily as ‘bread and cheese’ as long time back small children gathered and ate these when famine drove them to forage. The smell of these leaves and blossom is an earthy green, somehow familiar

Pleased to ramble as early summer or late winter flu-cold has made my head for a few days feel like it was exploding, even teeth and eyebrows hurt but today feel almost human although a little achy.

The dew in May is very special, especially today. It still exists even in these days of Global warming, if you get up early enough

In the garden where i grew up, the azelias are flowering and scent and colour for a few days are like scented jewels around the edges of this garden. Have a feeling these are cuttings from nearby Nymans. They flower beneath two giant oaks called Jack and Jill’ and behind them the fields roll away to the Downs, misty blue in the distance.
