Its not just big cats that get stressed

Last few days feared might loose our little tom cat long before his time and the reason been told is stress. He’s crossed his little legs to the point he couldnt go and needed a small but possibly life threatening op to help him out – worrying because he’s overweight.

Sorry to talk details but cheer him on each time he pees as he’s probably sore from his op. The emergency vets have been incredable.

Read online that cats are borderline in amount of fluid they drink.

Another possible cause is the dry food we were told to change him to for his teeth. Had a bad feeling about this advice but the vet was convincing – so followed his advice and always left water around but only near food bowl.

There were warning signs – changes in his lifestyle we didnt pick up fast enough but it blew up very suddenly and he became very ill very fast and told if he didnt get help – he wouldnt be there in the morning. Very sad thing to hear.

He has been given different pills to help him get well and advice to reduce his stress and we have changed back to a wet food diet including white fish. Places to hide away and places to perch and watch the world and pint mugs around our home with water to encourage drinking with ease, more playtime and cuddles and more peaceful home. He now has own little green cube meant for toddlers from Ikea.

Lots of advice about FLUTD but its not just big cats in zoos who get stressed and city cats – ours is a country cat – are more high risk probably because of fighting for territory. Our little cat runs off with fishfingers and likes potatoes but this will all have to go.
