One way or another and some much worse than others, the World we know has stopped abruptly.
Last year for us was hard but our fan belt breaking over cobbles in northern Europe on the way to do what we had promised, for short while made everything stop.
Because it was Friday night, some one a little drunk staggered passed and tried to help us communicate with the recovery service, then staggered off into the night after giving his number for contact and we had no idea where he came from or where he was going to.
Eventually, the car and us were collected and left somewhere on the edge of the town.
The night waiting for dawn was scary, As well as worried, probably at risk and concerned would not achieve what we had promised to do.
But once accepted this difficult situation, calmed down and became little more philosophical and things got better.
Eventually we got to our hotel and spent the hottest day in late August face down sleeping. Walking back the next day along the beach besides the Baltic – noticed seagulls gliding stationary in the wind above the sea and wondered – was this them – free at last.
But for me the most heart wrenching sign was the little white scruffy dog who came from nowhere alone and stood in front of our car as we were leaving to drive home because my father had always had scruffy little white dogs and knew he would be saying – take care, drive safely and thank you.
