Looking for something useful and cozy (maybe not exciting) for Christmas present – looked for new mattress topper and then hit the under world of sheep muzzling. Wool helps regulate body temperature. and is no longer valued as the wonderful product it is. Heard about farmers blending it with bracken to produce garden compost trying to recover a value for wool.
Don’t know much about this but seems in the UK we muzzle sheep but in countries like New Zealand they don’t because its not good for the sheep. Maybe this is about how sheep graze rather than when they are sheared as sheep don’t bite. Maybe they should,
Not only this – but mattress toppers to bring down the cost are manufactured from silk in China on the other side of the World.
Also heard about silk being produced in the North of England in the past and know there were Woolens Mills in the North and plenty of sheep and also plenty of people out of work.
Time for a change?
Revive forgotten Industries to avoid sourcing from the other side of the World and adding to Global Warming. Use the resources we have in abundance and our Government needs to introduce support to encourage this.
Support our Farmers in general. Make food about growing in the Earth and not produced in Factories.
Update how sheep are raised – no muzzling in the UK and give jobs to people in the North of England – reviving the wool and silk industry locally.
