Wondered about impact in 2018 of NHS Trusts in the UK who supervise Mental Health Care removing option of service users to have meds delivered to their home and save money by rationalising their health care into Units. Using mainly machines run by mainly technicians (not nurses or doctors) and pharmacists.
Not encouraging integration into the Community using health care services available to everyone – instead segregating into Cost Saving Units for people with primarily mental health diagnosis. Lepers long time ago – were treated in same way.
Concerned by doing this – an extra pair of eyes will be removed to pick up mistakes made ‘inhouse’ and will also reduce transparency of patients conditions – their physical conditions often made worse by meds they are being prescribed.
It also means patients will need to travel to get the meds – possibly increasing risks to some of them and real possibility – these meds will not be collected. More work for overstretched family or Care Coordinators to resolve.
By 2026 – cost cutting has gone much further. This seems a mistake to me. People who have serious mental health issues and their families need more thoughtful support not even less.
