‘Today, Bosham in West Sussex is a hopelessly pretty village in Chichester Harbour that clings to the land as the waters lap its feet at high tide and chimes gently to the sound of sailing boats moored at the quay’ – Sussex Exclusive
Today, the date of this link is in the future, probably human error. Bosham (pronounced Bozzum) has connections to Saxon and Norman history. It is very close to the Roman Palace at Fishguard and nearby Chichester and there is nice very popular pub and sailing club at Del Quay but almost impossible to park, even though not easy to find.
We were interested because this small town is considered the Venice of England known for its 11th-century church, Roman history and old fashioned streets that submerge at high tide. Also the area around Chichester by the sea, is a family stomping ground – family married in the church near Fishguard.
Underneath the church may be the final resting place of King Harold 11 (Harold Godwinson) rather than Waltham Abbey – Bosham is the home where he was born and also possibly the final resting place of King Canute’s daughter and featured in the Bayeux Tapestry. No one knows for sure and both bodies (so far) have never been officially found but King Harold 11 was supposed to have been buried by the sea.
